OXYPLUS®, is a hydrophobic poly-olefin membrane produced using the ACCUREL® process, similar to the production of OXYPHAN®. What makes OXYPLUS® so unique, is that during the production process a very thin (<1µm) dense outer skin develops. OXYPLUS® thus provides a homogeneous, highly porous membrane wall with a dense outer skin. Due to the excellent diffusion properties of OXYPLUS®, the transfer of gases like oxygen or carbon dioxide through the capillary wall is approximately the same as for microporous membranes.
The outer skin suppresses the passing of liquids like blood plasma or water into the pores and thus also into the lumen of the capillary. Even for prolonged exposure, it avoids the direct contact of the blood with air or oxygen and thus helps to reduce stress to the blood.
